Guide
To Selecting Your Wheel
Black Silicon Carbide wheels are a
tough grit generally used on cast iron, non-ferrous metals,
stone, marble, glass, plastics and rubber. Green Silicon
Carbide is also a tough grit generally used on tungsten carbides
such as carbide tooling, wear parts and saw tooth sharpening.
Both grit types can provide a good surface finish provided the
wheel is not too hard and the cut is not too great for the
finish desired. Often, Silicon Carbide grit is mixed with
Aluminum Oxide to grind stainless steels and other steels that
have a lot of chromium. This mix is also sometimes done to
achieve a better surface finish on certain steels than 100%
Aluminum Oxide would provide.
Grit size of 60/80 is generally
considered to be medium size which will produce a good finish
and aggressive cutting action.
Most of our wheels offered here
are 'H', 'I' or 'J' grade hardness which is medium and is
suitable for 90% of applications.
If you need other grit sizes,
hardnesses, shapes etc., please contact us as we only offer a
handful of our wheels here for online purchasing.
